Cultivated throughout the Vinho Verde Region, Arinto finds the best conditions to express its full potential in the more inland areas. Its geographical distribution is not limited to the northwest of Portugal; it is also found in other vineyard areas and regions, explaining the profusion of synonyms, such as ‘Pedernã,’ ‘Azal Galego,’ ‘Perdigão,’ ‘Pé de Perdiz,’ among others. It is characterized by its vigorous nature and low fertility, giving rise to large, very compact, and heavy clusters. Being a highly productive variety, it is highly valued by viticulturists Its versatility is well-known, allowing for the production of excellent sparkling wines, young and aromatic wines, or even those aged in wood. The wines are citrus-colored, with fresh and harmonious flavors and very fruity aromas (peach, ripe apple, and pear) and somewhat floral.
At Quinta da Raza, Arinto is one of the most planted grape varieties and is present in three of our wines, both as a single varietal – Dom Diogo Arinto and blended, combining with Azal and Trajadura in Raza Branco and with Avesso and Alvarinho in Quinta da Raza Espumante Bruto Natural 2019..
