Although authorized for the Vinho Verde Region, the cultivation of Gouveio was, until relatively recently, limited to a few dozen vines, primarily for experimental purposes and, as such, without commercial objectives. . In the Douro region, Gouveio is found in some of the best white wines produced there. Despite the lack of prior experience with this variety in the Basto sub-region, Quinta da Raza once again set out to innovate, grafting approximately one hectare of this variety onto the special Vinha de Lamelas, arranged in terraces, where the typical granitic rocky substrate gives way to a schist soil, testing the resilience of the plants. In the end, the results could not be better; Gouveio proved to be extremely versatile, with an excellent alcohol-acidity balance and great aging potential in tank and bottle. Its excellence and rarity – production limited to one hectare – lead us to reserve this variety for two references in the Special Family Collection range, notably in the single-varietal Quinta da Raza Vinha de Lamelas and the very limited 2nd edition of the Family Collection, where it combines perfectly with Alvarinho and Avesso.
