A grape variety of Minho origin, probably from the Monção and Melgaço sub-region, it is planted in almost all of the Vinho Verde Region, except for the Baião sub-region. Highly productive, its cycle is long, showing early bud break and late ripening; the clusters are compact, and the berries are greenish-yellow.
It provides intense aromas and soft flavors of apple, ripe pear, or even peach or apricot, with a touch of orange blossom. Unlike its fellow regional white grape varieties, Trajadura is known for its low acidity and high alcohol ripening, making it natural to see it more frequently in blends, particularly with varieties of greater complexity like Alvarinho, and less often as a single varietal. In fact, its elegance and smoothness allow the wines it is blended with to reach higher levels. The best example of this situation is the Quinta da Raza Alvarinho-Trajadura (a blend often considered “a match made in heaven”), perhaps the most consensual wine in our production and most awarded in various national and international competitions. Trajadura can also be found in Raza Branco, in great harmony with Arinto and Azal. However, it is not beyond the reach of Trajadura to produce beautiful single varietal wines. Anyone who has fallen in love with our Raza Pet-Nat White, with its aromas of wild yeast and orchard fruit, can tell you that.
