On this tour, we aim to showcase some of the rich and valuable heritage of the municipality of Celorico de Basto. Let’s begin with the most significant heritage symbol of the parish of Veade-Peneireiro, which also includes Quinta da Raza – the famous Romanesque church of Santa Maria de Veade. Built in the first half of the 13th century, it still preserves two beautiful side portals from that period. The interior is equally fascinating, with artistic and architectural elements dating back to the reconstruction of 1732, including the majestic main altarpiece, full of motifs from the national or Joanine Baroque. Next, we will visit perhaps the most iconic of the famous gardens in the Terras de Basto: the magnificent camellia garden of Casa do Campo (Molares, Celorico de Basto). Marvel at this magnificent example of topiary art from the Baroque period, with its arches and corridors, elegant “cooling houses,” and the unique “CentenĂ¡ria,” which is actually over 250 years old, making it the oldest camellia in Portugal. After this trip back in time, it’s time to recover your energy at Quinta da Raza, tasting our wines paired with the most delicious regional delicacies. This experience includes:
