European Wine Tourism Day was established in 2009 by RECEVIN - the European Network of Wine Cities and is celebrated annually on the second Sunday in November. This year it is celebrated on November 8th. This special day has been an important moment in the affirmation of wine tourism at a global level. For 10 years this initiative was celebrated only in Europe. This year, its celebration has been extended to a global scale, with the participation of Latin American countries such as Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.
World Wine Tourism Day aims to strengthen the dissemination of culture, heritage and traditions, as well as wine producers and their wine tourism, thus enhancing wine-growing territories.
Portugal has a rich cultural heritage associated with wine. It is a country with a strong wine-growing tradition and the excellent quality of its wines, which are recognized the world over, enjoy great diversity and uniqueness. And to appreciate and get to know them, there's nothing like visiting the regions where they are produced, with the wines being an excellent excuse to also discover the landscapes, heritage, gastronomy, culture and people who live here.
In the far northwest of Portugal, in the area traditionally known as Entre-Douro-e-Minho, the Vinho Verde Region takes us through a stunning landscape, also green in color. In terms of geographical area, it is the largest Portuguese Demarcated Region and one of the largest in Europe. The great diversity of soils and microclimates justifies dividing the region into nine sub-regions (from north to south): Monção and Melgaço; Lima; Basto; Cávado; Ave; Amarante; Baião; Sousa and Paiva.
Quinta da Raza is located in the Basto sub-region, the most inland of the region and therefore sheltered from the Atlantic sea winds. The surrounding nature of Celorico de Basto is one of its greatest heritage attributes. From the nearby viewpoints, namely Alto do Viso and Castelo de Arnoia, there are fabulous views stretching from the Tâmega valley to the Alvão and Marão mountain massifs.
The region's gastronomic specialties include cabidela rice, cabbage with beans and bacon, Portuguese stew, roast kid or mountain cheese, not forgetting sponge cake, cavacas and homemade pudding.
Vinho Verde, unique in the world, is an excellent reason to discover this region!
When you visit Quinta da Raza, we guarantee that you will do so safely. We recently received the Clean & Safe distinction, awarded to tourism businesses that comply with the recommendations of the Directorate-General for Health.
We hope to welcome you soon, in good health and good spirits, to enjoy our wine tastings!
