This grape variety is full of oenological virtues. It is a high-quality, vigorous, and rustic variety that, when the demands placed on it in the vineyard and the winery are overcome, produces fresh wines with floral and mineral notes, as well as citrus and stone fruit, slightly more full-bodied than usual. Another highlight is the aging potential of wines from this variety, with time adding structure and complexity, and the emergence of honey and dried fruit aromas and flavors, such as almond.
The fact that this grape variety is used in five of our references is indicative of its quality and versatility, starting with our Nat range, specifically Curtimenta, a 100% Avesso natural white wine. Also, as a single varietal, it is present in Quinta da Raza Avesso. Moving on to blends, where the main and fundamental contribution of Avesso is to provide aromatic complexity and body to the blends, we have Quinta da Raza Avesso-Alvarinho, and Family Collection No.2– in which the benefits of aging, both on fine lees in stainless steel tanks and in French oak barrels, are particularly evident – and finally, Quinta da Raza Espumante Bruto Natural 2019..
